Welcome to Montargis.org, a website dedicated to the Chinese history of the town and its contribution in the making of modern China.
In the 20s, former president Deng Xiaoping did work in Méng-dá-ní, the Chinese name for Montargis - and title of our website.
At the same time, it was also here that future leaders of the CPC studied as part of an international programme - when work or classes were over, they would all debate about the novel China usually in the gardens of the town.
One of the students was Cai Hesen, and on the 13th of August 1920, he sent a letter from Montargis to Mao Zedong urging him to create the Communist party. One year later, the Chinese Communist Party was launched in Shanghai.
